Ah… pastels. My long lost friends!

I was just reading the We Are OCA blog about wearable art (just where – or wear – is the cross over point). At the bottom was a sketch the author had done of Starry Night. I thought this was a felted piece, but on closer inspection I could see it was done in chalk pastels.

These old friends were my favourite drawing material when I was a student. The fuzziness also lends themselves dramatically to felting. Don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but I really should draw the pieces I want to felt in chalks first. This would take away the ability to focus on detail, enhance colour and experiment with abstracting much more.

Wonder where they are? Time to reignite my first love…
