Well I say! Angela gave me Cathy de Monchaux to look at for inspiration. As someone who makes exquisite but shocking pieces at the same time. I can see here what she means. The pieces are utterly beautiful and intricate and ornate – but when you realise the subject matter they make you jump backwards! But she isn’t scary (as this Telegraph interview shows).
I need to look at the methods she and Rebecca Horn use to rationalise their work methods and refining ideas.
I definitely need to retain working in fabric as a medium and likely I will push into the area of 3d (fabric sculpture) as I am increasing finding flat pieces (even relief pieces) wanting.
My tutorial with Angela was really encouraging and I do feel really pleased with the progress I’ve made.
