Mental Illness and Creativity Research

An article from Stylist magazine. http://www.stylist.co.uk/people/a-mind-of-their-own

Paper the above article refers to by Felix Post. http://bjp.rcpsych.org/content/165/1/22.short

Related abstract I found on the BJP site. http://bjp.rcpsych.org/content/168/5/545.short

Another article I found on creativity and mental illness. http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/features/print/2687/do-you-have-be-nuts-be-a-genius?page=0%2C3

I have purchased the book in the Stylist article and added it to my reading list.

I wonder if any papers have been written on the meditative benefits of certain crafts? Weavers, knitters and needle felters all cite the meditative qualities of the repetitive movements these crafts require. Many crafts are used as art therapy for mental illnesses – why? Is it because of the movement, the creativity or the achievement of making. An area of further investigation in the future
