I made a new memory vessel tonight with seaside colours. Lots of sand, a bit of sea, sky and a teeny bit of candy floss. Intertwined with a couple of memory paths/strings. I’ve then tried making folds, creases, bulges and loops in the fabric. I really like this way of creating form. I like the convolutions. Like the way a memory is constructed. It’s complex but structured.
I would like to make more of these. I cut some slight slants on some of the pleats as they no longer touched the surface. This adds dynamism. I might consider doing the same to the top loops.
I’ve cut a very slight slant to the loops and it’s made the shapes sharper and made the piece more coherent.
Perhaps, in the future, I might leave the edges really fuzzy – the way that memories are at the edges.
